Summer is Coming! Is your air conditioner ready?

Summer-is-coming

After a long winter of content summer is upon us. Spring has sprung and Summer is coming – is your HVAC ready? Now that Winter is behind us and Spring is here, we start preparing our home for warmer months ahead. One of the most important things to put on your “to do” list is a pre-summer inspection of your HVAC system. Once summer is in full swing, cooling system repairs and maintenance will become a major inconvenience, not to mention costly. Cleaning and repairing your system before it breaks will save you money and give you peace of mind.

Replace your filters – AC filters should be changed every 4 weeks when being heavily used during the summer months. So replace them now for this high use time. Dirty filters can cause your unit to stall or break completely, whereas clean filters will reduce indoor pollution, debris and contamination from your air. Failing to replace your filters can also reduce the efficiency of your system and increase you utility costs. So change your filters and save money too!

Test your air conditioner – test out your air conditioner before you actually need it. Run the cooling system briefly in your home to make sure everything functions properly. This way if your unit needs repairs, you can schedule them at your convenience and not worry about surviving those dog days of summer. Give yourself peace of mind knowing that your unit will function correctly when you need it the most.

Check the outdoor unit – Always make sure to check the outdoor unit to ensure there are no obstructions or debris collected around it. Keep plants, bushes, outdoor toys and furniture at least a few feet away to prevent damage from occurring or dirt building up inside. Monitoring the space around your unit will help keep your system in good condition and running properly longer.

Annual HVAC Tune-up – Having an annual or semi-annual tune-up can help your system run better and use less energy. During a tune-up, your HVAC technicians here at Boer Brothers Heating and Cooling., will inspect the equipment, clean your system, check the refrigerant levels and swap out small parts that need replacing. Here at Boer Brothers Heating and Cooling we will also tell you if any major parts need replacing or if there are warning signs of serious damage that can occur later.
